Capture the moment everyday; be better than ever.
On Saturday, Cody texted me to let me know that one of the players on Glen Rose football team had a serious car accident.
Cody said this, “Hey coach I just wanted to ask if you would send out a message to have all of are players just put Carlos Burt in there prayers for he is in baptist medical hospital from a severe car accident last night. He is the running back for glen rose and this was his senior year this year. Just kinda helps our players remember how fast something can be taken away from you. Just pray for him, his family and his community as they fight for him. Thanks.
What Cody texted to me reminded me of what Coach Hart says and what was written on our wall in the weight room. Coach Hart was quoted on our wall, saying, “Take advantage of every opportunity.” Coach Hart does this every day. For nearly two years, he has been fighting cancer, yet he shows up at every work out and takes advantage of his opportunity to impact our badgers. What a testament to his character and his ability to live up to his own words. Cody and Coach Hart are right. We must not let opportunities to make the most of our talents and abilities that could positively impact the lives of those around us slip away because they might be taken from us. We must take advantage of our opportunities and train to be BETTER THAN EVER in football, life, or whatever we are doing in each moment. It takes discipline; it takes training to do this. Eminem’s song “Lose Yourself” takes up the theme of capturing the moment. He asks this question in his lyrics.
Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted. one moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?–Eminem “Lose Yourself”
