The founder of Wieden+Kennedy agency, Dan Wieden credits the inspiration for his “Just Do It” Nike slogan to Gary Gilmore’s last words. The “Just Do It” campaign allowed Nike to further increase its share of the North American domestic sport-shoe business from 18% to 43%, (from $877 million to $9.2 billion in worldwide sales) from 1988 to 1998. In many Nike-related situations, “Just Do It” appears alongside the Nike tick logo, known as the Swoosh.
Gary Gilmore, in the waning moments prior to his execution for a double murder was asked if he had any last words, he actually said, “Let’s do it.” He didn’t want any more time to think about it; rather, he just wanted it done. Those words were the inspiration for Nike’s ad campaign.
Just do it is an awesome slogan. If we all would take this slogan to heart it would cut out many negative things in our lives. It would cut out extra thinking. It is great to reflect and it is great to plan, but when it comes time, you must just do it and adapt as you go. Living by this slogan would also cut out complaining. Stop complaining and just do it. Do your job as hard and as fast as you can. You only have five minutes between bells. No reason to complain. You can’t add time just do it. Get to class on time. If you get a tardy, just do your 20 burpees and don’t be tardy again. Look at the workout on the board and just do it. One of my coaches used to say all the time, “Nothing to it, but to do it.” Just do it, takes away the excuses as well. The ball was thrown behind me, No just catch the ball, Just do it. This slogan is applicable to the Arkadelphia Badger Football way of doing things. We go from one thing to the next as fast as possible and it is our attempt to just do it. Cut out the negativity, the extra thinking, the complaining, the excuse making, and JUST DO IT! I believe that if we can always just do it as hard and as fast as possible, we can be BETTER THAN EVER! YOU ARE AN ARKADELPHIA FOOTBALL PLAYER, JUST DO IT!
